why couples counseling is so powerful

One of my specialities is helping couples and families navigate their relationships, which also means helping each individual to recognize the impacts and dynamics of their own experiences and life paths.

Today, I want to share about couples counseling, and the value of working with couples in the counseling space.

Relationships are intricate, emotional, and vital to our human systems; we need other humans to relate to, share with, and to help us make sense of our journeys.

The couples I work with are amazing. They show up in their most vulnerable places and want to figure out how to work together better and deepen their connection with each other.

I feel so grateful to be able to be present in the room as a third party with a couple I am working with; it is so powerful. There is so much energy and emotion in the room, and oftentimes misunderstandings that hurt deeply.

Some of the elements I value the most when working with a couple in this way is SPACE.

Space in our words; space for each partner to share their thoughts and feelings without an immediate response; space for each person to hear each other in a reflective way; space for each individual to draw connections to the past and how this may impact their current relationship; space to put themselves in each other’s shoes and discover that they may for the first time understand something profound about their partner that they never knew.

Space to look at one another and remember the foundation they have created together and begin to learn how to make it stronger than ever before.

Relationships are hard; they are also a wonderful journey of hope, love, connection, adventure, laughter, joy and companionship. When I work with couples, I love to help them rediscover these elements, while gaining new perspectives that guide them towards growth, trust, and understanding.

I remind them that relationships are complex, misunderstandings are inevitable, and that they have the tools to make important changes. I remind them to laugh together.

I help them remember how they found each other in the first place,

and how to find each other now.
